Behind the Lens: The Wild, Wonderful Things I’ve Seen at Weddings in OKC

If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a wedding photographer in OKC, it’s that no two wedding days ever unfold the same way — and honestly, that’s the best part.

Every celebration has its own blend of laughter, chaos, and love, and I’ve had a front-row seat (and sometimes a hands-on role!) in all of it.

Over the years, I’ve found myself doing a lot more than clicking a camera shutter. Sure, I’m there for the first kiss and the golden-hour portraits — but I’ve also filled in for last-minute emergencies, helped fix the unfixable, and even made it official a time or two.

Like the day I photographed a small elopement and ended up signing as an official witness on the marriage license. One minute I was capturing vows, and the next, I was making it legal. It was my first time pulling double duty — photographer and witness — and I have to admit, it felt pretty special to literally help two people start their marriage story.

Then there was the bride who needed to be sewn into her dress just minutes before walking down the aisle. The zipper wouldn't cooperate, but thankfully my emergency kit and a few deep breaths saved the day. We laughed through it, stitched her in, and you’d never guess a thing went wrong from her photos — she looked radiant and completely unbothered.

And I’ll never forget the wedding that ran almost an hour behind because the wedding party was late to hair and makeup. The bride could’ve panicked, but instead, she asked the venue to open the bar early for guests while everyone got caught up. We all rolled with it and everyone had a great time.

Most recently there was the time I pulled double duty again — this time as photographer and emergency hair stylist. The maid of honor couldn’t quite get the veil secured in the bride’s hair, so I jumped in after a few posed photos and used the classic crossed-pin trick to hold it perfectly in place.

Moments like that remind me that being a wedding photographer isn’t just about capturing images — it’s about being part of the day in any way that helps the couple feel calm, confident, and ready to celebrate.

That’s what I love most about weddings in OKC — they’re full of real people who know how to roll with the punches. Whether it’s a fancy downtown venue, a cozy backyard, or a quiet courthouse ceremony, every wedding has those unplanned little moments that make the day unforgettable.
For me, being a wedding photographer isn’t just about documenting the perfect poses — it’s about stepping in when you need an extra set of hands, a calming presence, or someone who just gets it. I’m there to help, to laugh with you, and to make sure the photos reflect exactly how the day felt — even the wild parts.

Because the truth is, the best stories never go perfectly according to plan — and that’s what makes them yours.
